Managing Shareholder
Insurance-related litigation
Michele A. Kiraly

With over two decades of legal experience, Michele Ann Kiraly focuses on insurance-related litigation, particularly when it involves catastrophic injury and complicated damages issues. These are some of the most challenging and complex cases in law, which is why she enjoys them: Michele prides herself on skillfully navigating their intricacies with a meticulousness and thoroughness that is truly rare. The bulk of Michele’s caseload is comprised of representing insurers in first party and extracontractual cases and insureds in third party cases; however, Michele also enjoys investigating questionable claims and conducting examinations under oath (probably because of her criminal justice background and her Type-A personality-driven attention to detail), and she also serves as personal counsel to several local businesses and performs limited estate planning.

Of course, she knows well that some of most vital parts of the legal process happen outside the courtroom. That's why she's developed bedrock of experience in all aspects of civil litigation, including mediation and arbitration hearings, settlement conferences, as well as trials and appeals. Michele also serves as a court-appointed arbitrator.

Michele is a Nevadan through and through. She's a proud Wildcat -- that is, a graduate of historic Las Vegas High School -- and a Rebel, graduating Magna Cum Laude and with High Honors in 1990 from UNLV, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice.  Michele was named UNLV’s Honors College Alumna of the Year in 2005.  In 1993, Michele received her Juris Doctorate degree from the University of San Diego. While in law school, Michele began her legal training by serving as a legal intern with USD’s Civil Clinic and as a legal extern to the Honorable Philip Pro, United States District Judge, District of Nevada.

Michele launched her legal career in 1993 as a law clerk to the Honorable John S. McGroarty, Eighth Judicial District Court judge. Thereafter, Michele worked as an attorney and became a shareholder in another Las Vegas insurance defense firm, Pearson, Patton, Shea, Foley & Kurtz, P.C., where she worked with her current law partner starting in 1996. Michele currently serves as the Managing Shareholder for Patton & Kiraly, P.C.

Michele is a member of the Clark County Bar Association, the State Bar of Nevada, the Defense Research Institute, and the Women Lawyers Alliance.  An active member of the legal community and experienced public speaker, she's served as a guest lecturer at seminars before insurance company representatives and attorneys and at conferences addressing medical-legal issues.  Michele’s reported cases include May v. Anderson, 121 Nev. 668, 119 P.3d 1254 (2005).  Michele also believes in giving back to her profession and helping those less fortunate, so she engages in pro bono service whenever possible within her profession, and outside of her profession, she serves as a Big Sister in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program and gives her time and talents to several non-profit agencies.

Michele is married and has twin sons who are thriving in school and sports (and, of course, she's their number one cheerleader). In her spare time, she enjoys cooking and baking, reading, seeing movies, hiking, biking, running, camping, and spending time with her extended family and friends.
